What this call funds

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Global Health Initiative (the Initiative) aims to develop knowledge and tools for addressing threats to Australia’s national health security from regional and global challenges. The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that, through co-design with consumers and health services, develop scalable and sustainable approaches to anticipate, prevent and/or mitigate the impact of climate change on communicable diseases affecting people in Australia. The intended outcome of the research is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by addressing the health impacts of communicable diseases and climate change. Applications must clearly demonstrate activities for capacity building for early to mid-career researchers and/or early career clinician researchers, including salary stipends for PhD scholarships or clinician time where relevant. Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose to conduct research that delivers against the above objective and those of the Global Health Initiative. Applicants are encouraged to propose novel and/or innovative research and describe how the outcomes of the research will be translated into health benefits for Australians. This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. Further information on the Medical Research Future Fund is available from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing's website. A list of Eligible Organisations can be found on the NHMRC List of MRFF Eligible Organisations webpage.
