Every number on this site is derived from a stored copy of what the funders themselves published. This page is the whole chain: where each call comes from, what we drop and why, which figures are the funder's and which one is ours.
Every call on Bemzu is read from the Search API behind the European Commission's Funding & Tenders Portal, the same index the portal's own front end queries. We fetch it daily, store the response verbatim, and derive everything on our side from that stored copy. Nothing is typed in by hand.
On the last sync our sources returned 3665 records labelled open or forthcoming. 1129 of them, 31%, had no cut-off left in the future. Horizon topics whose deadline passed in 2023. An Erasmus charter whose last cut-off was in March. Their status field simply had not been updated.
Canada is a different shape again: most of its programmes take applications continuously and publish no closing date at all. Treated as dated calls they would read as expired; Bemzu marks them rolling and keeps them out of deadline-sorted lists, where they would otherwise sort first or last forever and lie about urgency either way.
We keep the portal's word verbatim in our store and never overwrite it, but we publish our own: a call is open only if it has a cut-off still ahead of it. That is why Bemzu lists 2400 calls where the sources together imply far more.
For each action the Commission publishes an expected number of grants alongside the budget. It is buried in a JSON blob the portal never renders. We surface it, because it is the honest denominator: a €50M call funding four projects is a different proposition from a €50M call funding two hundred.
Where that number is absent, we show nothing. We do not estimate it, and we do not infer it from the budget.
The check runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are held in that browser's local storage and are never transmitted, there is no account, no server to receive them, and no request that carries them.
Each call is read against your profile on five gates: whether the cut-off is still reachable given how fast you said you could submit; whether the applicant structure matches what you can assemble; whether the co-financing share is within what you said you could carry; whether the required maturity overlaps yours; and whether the grant size is sensible for your size. Every gate reports the sentence that produced it.
A gate we cannot check is reported as unchecked, never as passed. If the portal does not publish a funding rate, the co-financing gate says so rather than waving you through.
Consortium size, funding rate, TRL and lump-sum treatment are read out of the topic conditions the portal publishes, and shown with the sentence they came from so you can check us in a glance.
Where the conditions do not state it, we fall back on the type of action (a Research and Innovation Action is collaborative, an EIC Accelerator is not) and mark it inferred. An inferred value never appears without that mark.
One thing on a call page is ours: the cost of applying, drafting weeks, partner-search time, time to first payment. It is derived from the call's structure, and every table that shows it says so. The co-financing figure in the same table is read from the call itself.
