Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the European Union's research and innovation framework programme, and the single largest source of grant funding on this site. It runs in work programmes: every couple of years the Commission publishes what it will fund, split into clusters and destinations, and each topic becomes its own call with its own budget, its own deadline and its own conditions. Most topics are collaborative (they expect a consortium from several countries) but the EIC and MSCA branches also fund single organisations and individual researchers.

Of the 482 calls open under it now, 454 state that a consortium is required and 5 accept a single applicant. Where a funding rate is published it is typically the full cost of the action, so no co-financing is expected. 25 of them are two-stage: a short proposal first, and only shortlisted applicants write the full one.

The published expectation across these calls is 1571 funded projects, the honest denominator when you weigh whether to spend a month writing. 391 calls use lump-sum funding, where you are paid for delivering work packages rather than for reporting costs. The next cut-off is 09 Sept 2026.
