The purpose of the grant is to provide sponsorship to the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII). AustLII provides a free, publicly accessible website containing Australian legal information. AustLII is considered the most comprehensive Australian legal database in terms of its collection of legal materials. The Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) sponsorship of AustLII contributes to the achievement of Outcome 1 from the ATO Portfolio Budget Statement (PBS) via Program 1.1 Australian Taxation Office. As a major source of free tax-related material, AustLII supports ease of compliance for tax practitioners and taxpayers. The intended outcome of the grant is to support AustLII in continuing to make its legal database freely available to the general public. Specifically, the Taxation Law Library assists in educating the community on their tax obligations, which supports the ATO in administering the tax law and aligns with Outcome 1 in the ATO’s PBS.
