Embedding and Promoting the National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention

This grant opportunity forms part of the Australian Government’s investment in the Thriving Kids program announced in the 2026-27 Federal Budget and supports activities that strengthened best practice early childhood intervention across Australia. The National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention (the Framework) sets out what high-quality, evidence-informed early childhood intervention looks like for children under 9 years of age with developmental concerns, delay or disability, and their families. It provides guidance to services, practitioners and families on delivering and accessing effective, tailored supports, to enable participation in everyday life and achieve the best possible outcomes. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to promote and embed the Framework across the sector by improving awareness, capability and uptake of best practice early childhood intervention (ECI) approaches across workforce groups and the broader community including ECI practitioners, organisations, families, carers, kin and other stakeholders. This will contribute to improved quality, consistency and accessibility of ECI supports across Australia, supporting delivery of the objectives of the Thriving Kids National Model. The Department will engage University of Melbourne and Professionals and Researchers in Early Childhood Intervention (PRECI) to deliver activities to ECI practitioners and organisations, as well as families and communities, to use and apply the Framework consistently across Australia and promote best practice ECI approaches for the children and families they support.
